ORIGIN STORY
Carla Ng and April Hawkins founded Worddiction after they saw the need for accurate, affordable translations.
Carla brings a unique understanding of translation, marketing, and communications stemming from her corporate background. She also serves as a Trustee on the Board of Education at her local public school district. She speaks Cantonese and English fluently. She migrated to the US as a child from Hong Kong. Carla works with at-risk youth in her local high school district. She also serves on the Women in Leadership Advisory Board at the University of California Santa Barbara. She is committed to bringing equity and support to all kids.
April has lived in five countries and speaks French and English. She reads and writes in Arabic, Hebrew, and Spanish as well. She saw the unique needs of schools to offer equitable translations to families during her decade-long career as a public school district administrator. April serves on the Foster Care Advisory Board in her community.
In addition, April worked with asylum seekers at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Tel Aviv. She holds a Masters in Middle Eastern Studies, a B.A. in French Literature, an advanced French language certification from the Sorbonne, and a language certificate from Drayah Language Institute in Cairo.
